With a new year come new trends, which both exciting and stressful at the same time. Exciting because trends represent innovation and progress (most of the time…parachute pants were questionable.) But stressful because, if you don’t stay on top of the trends, you tend to get left in the dust. And the last place you want your business is left behind. That’s why we’ve compiled a few things for you to look for in office spaces this year.
Less individualistic, more collaborative
Collaborative workspaces broke onto the scene a few years ago, but this year is shaping up to be the year the individual office space died. Personal offices are making way for big, open concepts filled with convertible workstations and a combination of lounge spaces and meeting areas, encouraging collaboration and creativity on all levels.
Rethink the Desk
As simple as it sounds, offices are radically rethinking the concept of desks in the workplace. Instead of a person being confined to a standard desk that may inhibit their creativity or comfort, personnel are encouraged to redefine their idea of a productive workspace. Whether that looks like a sit-stand workstation, a minimalist table with hidden technology ports, or a treadmill desk, diversity is the name of the game.
Upgrade That Fichus in the Corner
I’m not just talking about getting a couple more houseplants for the lobby. I’m talking about bringing the outdoors indoors to encourage a more tranquil, meditative atmosphere. Large windows that let in tons of natural light are key, along with an outdoor space like a courtyard as an alternate meeting area. If a giant demo isn’t in the cards for you, invest in some water features and wooden accents to give your space a softer atmosphere.
Minimalism to the Max
Clean lines, no clutter, hidden cords. That’s the kind of minimalism we’re talking about here. Many companies are ditching paper files and moving towards the Cloud concept and leaving charging stations behind for tables with hidden charging ports. The fewer places for clutter to collect, the better.
Remember, keeping up with office trends doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your office’s personality, mission, and vision. It just means moving forward. Innovation and productivity go hand in hand, so give your employees an innovative workspace, and watch the productivity skyrocket.
